Description
The entrance and entrance stone covered with a spiral carving at the Neolithic site Newgrange. Newgrange is a prehistoric monument in County Meath, Ireland and lies on the north side of the River Boyne. Newgrange is older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids as it was built during the Neolithic period around 3200 BC. The largest of the mounds covers more than one acre. It is unknown what purpose it was built but it is aligned with the rising sun and its light floods the chamber on the winter solstice.
